Hi Summaya, as usual, you have made a good attempt. Try to give reasons for your options for each question so that you may affirm your answers or may change them. Try reasoning out and make sure you have come to the right conclusion. Good luck. Keep trying........
DeleteHello *-^
ReplyDelete1_b : not a few inflectional ,but it's derivational morphemes can occure as a prefixes
2_b : A word can be a morpheme e.g : the word (reopened) it has three morphemes
3_b : D.M are productive than Inflectional M ,because D M is used to make new words ,but Inflectional M not used to produce new words in the language
4_a : the word repaird has three morphemes
( re.___(G) )
(Pair__(M) )
(ed__(G) )
Hi Arafa, it's great to see your response to the quiz. You have made a good attempt to answer them although you may reconsider answers to questions 3 and 4. I think by now you are sure about the answer for the question 3 as i explained it in the last lecture. Answer to question 2 is right, but the example and the explanation do not exactly convince your argument. I am really happy to see that you have taken the studies very seriously. Keep goingggggggggggggg.................
Delete1.b all Inflectional M are suffixes.
ReplyDelete2.b e.g walked has 2 M walk → free M, ed → bound M, so we can say that a word ' walk ' alone is morpheme.
3. b inflational M have only 8 M that used to indicate the grammatical function of a word whereas D M have infinite number of M that used to produce new words so it is more productive than inflations
4. b repaired has 2 M repair → free M, ed → bound M.
Hi Summaya, your modified answers still need modification, especially, answer to question 3. I think you made your comments before my lecture. After attending the last lecture, I am sure you know the right answer for question 3. Please correct your answer. Keep going great..........
Delete3. a inflectional M are more productive than DM. That is, , inflections are frequently used. e.g inflectional plural (s) M is almost used with all nouns whereas some derivational M like re, less are less used
DeleteHi Summaya, You did it right.Good!

ReplyDelete2_b: no a word can be a morpheme like a word (computerization) it has four morphemes .
3_b. IF M aren't productive than D.M ,because D.M is used to occure new words whereas IF.M isn't .
4_b repair_ed it has 2 M repair >FM. ed>BM
I hope all my answers be correct .
Hi Enas, really happy to see your responses. Even I too wish all your answers to be correct as you wish. Answers to Q1, Q2 and Q4 are correct, but answer to Q3 is wrong. Although, apparently it seems that derivational morphemes are more productive than inflectional morphemes, a deeper understanding will reveal that it is just the opposite. Anyway it will be clear to you when we discuss it in the next lecture on 23-11-16. If you can try to find out the reason before the next lecture so that you may explain it to other students. Keep trying.... Good Luck!

ReplyDeleteHi Summaya, as always once again you have shown your great enthusiasm in learning. Actually, the home work is to analyse just the two words - building and buildings, but you have analysed all the words. Your analysis is almost correct, yet it needs some correction. I don't want to rectify exactly the mistake right now as I wait for the responses from other students. Still, you may read once again the definition of lexical and functional morphemes to clarify your confusion. Keep the enthusiasm going forward....... Good luck!
DeleteHi,thank you Mr Shaiju I am really proud to have a teacher like you .I think both "is and are"→ functional M because they are described as a closed class of words
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for your nice words about me. Usually good teachers inspire the students, but exceptional students inspire the teachers as well. So be proud for being one of them.
DeleteThank you teacher .I understood that today . So i'm realy happy for u are my teacher. And your way of teach us is very clear
ReplyDeleteHi, happy to see that you understand the concept perfectly well. Remember, when you are confused and then get things clarified you learn better. It's a sign that you are learning. So keep learningggggggggggg.........
